Goodbye NFL (Sorry Peyton)
Attention Roger Goodell and the NFL:
When you decided to get political with the Michael Sams situation, such as fining players for expressing their opinion about his ridiculous “coming out” party, and pressuring teams to pick him up for their practice squad, I decided to boycott the NFL. I don’t like fascists who try to enforce “goodthink” and maintain politically correct images. Looks like I am not the only one who feels that way, given the ratings dive and comments I have seen on various websites. Plenty of college football and other things to do with my time.
I regret that my decision, in a miniscule way, will affect people that I like and cheer for, such as Peyton Manning. One less viewer. I am sure my cable company keeps track of all my viewing habits, which will make me all the more vigilant about maintaining my boycott — fewer households means less advertising revenue. But, I have to draw the line somewhere. When the NFL gives Don Jones his money back, and apologizes for trying to push an agenda, instead of promoting football, maybe I’ll come back around.
P.S. I am sure there have been plenty of good football players who are gay through the years. I don’t care and I don’t need to know. It’s supposed to be about football and proving it on the field, not about some civil rights achievement. I can’t believe people who have this much money have so little insight.
